SEPIA - handmade ceramic collection

SEPIA - handmade ceramic collection

SEPIA – Ceramic art

Sepia – one of my ceramic collections where the beauty of natural materials serves as the primary inspiration. This serie of handcrafted pottery explores the inherent charm and versatility of stoneware, with its rich tones of sepia that evoke shades of golden brown, amber, and soft ochre. The ceramic creations in the 'sepia' collection strike a balance between rustic charm and elegance, revealing the unique qualities of the glazes in a truly special way.

This collection features a variety of handmade tableware designs that harmonize beautifully, thanks to their shared geometry and color palette. Yet, each piece, while complementary to the others, carries its own distinct artistic expression and story, adding depth and character to the collection and the ceramic sets assembled from its pieces.

The dark blue 'Rome' design creates a different effect on the same clay body and can be beautifully assembled into a set with the white 'rome', as well as with the other ceramics of this collection.

Small batch pottery in Malaga – South

South

Sea landscapes of the Atlantic coast of southern Spain, with vibrant turquoise waters, golden sand beaches, and the warmth of the sun’s arc.

Small batch pottery in Malaga – Red Sepia

Red sepia

This design with a dynamic texture infuses deeper, warm shades into the original color of the clay, adding rich red tones to the collection.

Small batch pottery in Malaga – Wave Ripple

Wave Ripple

Wave patterns formed by water over golden sand. This design is part of my 'wave ripple' collection. Crafted from sepia stoneware, it beautifully complements both collections.

Inspiration

The inspiration for the 'sepia' ceramics stems from my personal experiences and the world around me – encompassing landscapes, color combinations, geometries, and the feelings and impressions I've encountered. These inspirations can exist individually as distinct designs or come together to form a new experience or cohesive set within the collection.

For example, the cups 'south' and 'rome' come together to evoke the image of the ancient Roman city on Bolonia Beach in South Spain. Sometimes this vision is clear before I begin creating the ceramics; other times, it emerges as I interact with the finished pieces. Each creation captures the interplay of these influences, revealing a unique and personal interpretation.

Cups & sets

The cups in 'sepia' ceramic collection match in size and shape with those in my 'wave ripple' collection, making them perfect for assembling into a harmonious set.

The cups feature a small ledge on the bottom that allows them to be stacked on top of one another. With a set of different designs, you can enjoy the flexibility of arranging them in various ways, creating a new and unique art object each time. There may be slight variations in size and diameter, especially among cups made from different colors of stoneware, due to the handmade nature of the pieces and the natural transformation of materials during production. Thanks to this, each set and combination of cups is unique, capturing the essence of individuality and the artisanal craftsmanship that defines handmade ceramics.

The sizes are: S (ca. 120ml), M (ca. 180ml), L (ca. 280ml).

All the pieces in my ceramic art collection, 'wave ripple' are created in my pottery workshop in Malaga. Each item is wheel-thrown and fired at 1250ºC.
