Contemporary ceramics in Malaga – handmade tableware 'sand'

'sand' plates collection

My 'sand' collection consists of flat plates made from a unique stoneware that incorporates firesand (chamotte) into its body. It results in a wonderful textured surface, which creates beautiful effects and unexpected details when combined with glazes. The plates are flat with smooth elevations on the edges, serving both as a functional food serving dish and as an exquisite decorative piece for interior spaces.

To craft the bases for my handmade plates, I employ various colors of stoneware, each offering its own delightful surprises when fired with glazes. I mix and overlay different glazes to create unique patterns and special details on the surface. Some designs are inspired by things I've seen, while the meaning behind others may become clear only later in the creative process.

I offer my handmade 'sand' plates in two sizes: approximately 26cm and 23cm in diameter. These plates have a delicate shape, so please keep this specification in mind. However, they are made from stoneware and fired at 1250°C, making the material strong and resistant. You can use them for food serving and as regular plates, only maybe be mindful of the crystal details present on some of the plates and avoid using sharp knives with excessive pressure in those areas. These plates are dishwasher safe.

Each plate is a singular creation, much like a unique artwork on a ceramic canvas.
